Rogue Trader - PAGS

The Mutant's Ball
The search of the Macrostatue continues while the captain makes his way to the banquet at the Liege's Court

We join the crew of the Archaeda’s Grief soon after their battle against the shadow creatures finished. Those armsmen who fled and returned were stripped of their weapons and confined under guard. After Father Hal Torque finished his inspection of all those who came into contact with the creatures in case of taint, a watch perimeter was set up as they waited for Lord Captain Tyron Balt to arrive.

Once he arrived the search of the Macrostatue was ordered to continue, Torian had to crawl through cramped service corridors to start repairing power conduits to get the turbolifts running again. It was a slow, gruelling, nerve wracking climb up the statue as everyone was on their toes, searching the shadows for any signs of movement.

After a while Captain Tyron had to leave to get to the welcome banquet at the Liege’s Court. He took Raven with him to help read the minds of those he dealt with. Once he arrived and found Madam Charlabelle Armelan who introduced him to several of the more prominent guests, including Liege Tanthus Moross, Abel Gerrit, and Lord Admiral Bastille, he started his blunt questioning, trying to get information on the foretelling The Seven Witches were supposed to be giving soon. His less than diplomatic approach to his dealings with the other Rogue Traders was met with both polite feigned ignorance and refusals to discuss anything to do with “current operational information”.

The Lord Captain was pulled to the side by Madam Charlabelle who tried to convince him to try be a little more diplomatic and tactful in this company, as most don’t tend to respond well to blunt, tactless questioning and boorish behaviour. About this time the dinner bell rang and they were all shown to their seats. When Captain Tyron sat down he found himself next to a man called Vladaym Tocara. He introduced himself as an agent for The Kasballica Mission, the crime syndicate that controls the Cold Trade, the sale of Xenos Artifacts. He suggested that they have a private meeting sometime to discuss business as he had many dealings with Tyron’s father.

As the meals were brought out it became apparent that a peculiar quirk of what passed for nobility in this station was to partake of dangerous foods. There were five particular dishes that only very few people were trying, with varying degrees of side effects. In an attempt to try impressing people into giving him information Tyron proceeded to gather them all into a big plate, crunch them together and eat them all. He got through the Voidburned Winterscale with Rakken Brain Sauce and Shardspider Eggs in Promethium Soup without much effect. The Live Dolorium Throat Crab he had killed in his crushing together so they gave him no trouble, but also didn’t impress anyone. He started having difficulty when he got some Jerazol Brain-Fluke braised in Ork Spinal Fluid__ into him, which caused him to have a massive brain spasm and start compulsively polishing his sidearm over and over again for the remainder of the banquet. In between brief pauses in his cleaning he managed to swallow the final dish, Deep Warp Eel with Egarian Mummy Extract, which proceeded to mutate his muscles into exploding in size, doubling his strength.

Raven had spent most of the meal trying to read the thoughts of those around him without much success. The jumble of minds kept him from being able to concentrate enough on any one person. He had stuck to the safer foods for most of the meal, seeing the strange side effects that various patrons were suffering. He saw the impressed looks from the people around the captain though and decided to try a few himself. He ate The Live Dolorium Throat Crab whole which proceeded to cause him to violently throw-up for the next several minutes. When he returned to the table he decided to try the Deep Warp Eel with Egarian Mummy Extract. He started to get an itchy feeling in the back of his throat and proceeded to throw up a swarm of tiny, ripping Dolorium Throat Crabs. He had a strange feeling that he could do this again if he wanted. Everyone around him looked impressed with his culinary tastes, though looked worried about the tiny crabs that seemed to come from no where.

The rest of the crew had spent this time painfully slogging through the Macrostatue, repairing power and going up the levels searching for any signs of the witches. They had reached an impasse though in the form of a service level that seemed to have been completely stripped bare of all equipment. They only way forward was to either crawl through endless service corridors to get to upper levels or to go out and try another airlock cable to another level of the structure.

We leave the crew until next time…

Terror in the Dark
The crew encounter more than they bargined for ...

We picked up with Lord Captain Tyron Balt sitting down for a meal at The House of the Emperor’s Grace. He was there to try and find out anything about this prophecy that the seven witches were supposed to be giving soon. Jo’qa Voidspawn had discovered that a Rogue Trader by the name of Madam Charlabelle Armelan would be here at the same time. After an invitation to join them, Tyron managed to make a tentative alliance to help each other out with Madam Charlabelle during the course of the meeting.

We crossed over to Father Hal Torque trying to get some information at The Chapel of the Third Congregants. Unfortunately due to the fact that the Chapel is mainly run by the Drusian sect, as Father Hal is not an adherent of that sect there was very little information forthcoming. He did get a little information from an accolyte of the Chapel, that the Seven Witches are well respected and sort after by various Rogue Traders, giving them a legal Imperial sanctioning in the Koronus Expanse. After this he reported to Tyron Balt and was told to make his way to The Macrostatue of the God Emperor to backup the group making their way into the twisting corridors inside.

We switch back to the group just as they enter the Macrostatue with 8 armsmen. Malakai took five of them when they encountered a T junction and went left, leaving three with Thale Steihr and Raven to head right. After several minutes of exploring the dark corridors they found that this level of the statue is a series of concentric rings that met in the middle by a bank of turbo lifts. Torian had made his way to the group to offer his knowledge of the Meckanicus in their search, though all he managed to find out was that the main power was out in this area. Raven had been sensing a psychic presence for most of the trip so far, which coalesced into two shadow creatures detaching from the walls of the chamber and attacking the group. After a brutal and terrifying battle, the psychic presence of the creatures causing several of the guardsmen and a few of the crew to flee in unholy terror, the crew manage to finally purge the creatures from this plane of existence. The final tally was three guardsmen dead, one MIA, never returning after fleeing the shadow creatures. Father Hal had arrived at the battle right before the end, decisively ending things with a blast from his heavy flamer. All the crew and guardsmen that remain have been ordered to remain in the area until they have been checked for taint.

We leave the crew of the Grief for another fortnight.

The Search for the Witches
The crew continue their search for information on the Seven Witches...

We join the crew of the Archaeda’s Grief again this week with Lord Captain Tyron Balt and his group, Lord Daxos and Malakai, in the thick of a alley fight with some of the scum of Footfall. Refer to Arrival at Footfall for the events leading up to this.

After the initial exchange of fire from the scum that took down one of the Redshirts early, Malakai lobs another grenade down the hall and the resulting explosion causes that hallway to go silent. Two guardsmen go back/get hauled forward by Lord Daxos to cover him from the ambushers at the back. After a few more exchanges of gunfire, in which another guardsman gets taken down as well as a few of the scum, Lord Captain Tyron gives the order to charge the scum and runs into combat with two of the ambushers, cutting one down with his Angevian Chainsword on the way in. The combat devolves into a series of close combat fights that sees the scum overwhelmed and the few remaining try to flee. One gets cut down by a guardsman as he runs and the last one gets lamed by a well placed bolt round from Malakai. The Lord Captain starts questioning the scummer about the whereabouts of the group that was impersonating the customs officers. After a few brutal rounds of questions the Lord Captain is convinced that this person knows nothing and executes him. They start making their way out of the warren of service corridors, seeing that continuing the search would be fruitless.

Meanwhile Father Hal Torque makes his way to The Chapel of the Third Congregants and spends the next several hours conferring with his Ecclesiarchal Colleagues (i.e. Noddy couldn’t make the session). Jo’qa Voidspawn was contacted by the Captain via Micro-Bead and ordered to go back to the ship and pick up Thale Steihr and Raven to help with the search for information, as well as to negotiate to get the Grief’s cargo hold retro fitted into a launch bay, as well as two squadrons of Starhawk Bombers to go with it.

After arriving on Footfall, Steihr started making inquiries into finding merchants and fitters that deal with starship components and bomber squadrons. After a string of false leads and wild goose chases around the dockyards and merchant quarters, costing him valuable time, he finally found someone who might be able to get them what they need. He met with Tecikar, a merchant who specialises in starship components and military surplus. After some hard negotiation and an attempted psychic delusion from Raven, that proved to just make Tecikar more talkative and friendly toward Raven but didn’t affect the deal, they managed to secure a contract to have the cargo hold retro fitted as launch bays, losing 2/3 of the hold in the process. Work would start as soon as the Grief was docked at a dockyard. They also secured one squadron of Bombers, with another to be delivered as soon as Tecikar could secure a second.

While the negotiations were going on, the Lord Captain and his group, at a suggestion from Lord Daxos, decided to try looking for information at The Spire of Intoxicants. Upon arrival, Lord Daxos tried to talk to some of the local narco-tribesmen. Still not entirely sure what he said to offend, he managed to insult one of the tribes Elders and the group from the Grief became pariah’s in the Spire. Stalls and shops were closed as they approached, no one would talk to them. After a while of this the Captain managed to find someone willing to talk to them with the promise of money, but not openly. They met this narco-ganger further up the Spire in a service corridor a little later, but unfortunately as soon as they brought up the Seven Witches the ganger clammed up looking terrified. He refused to speak of the Witches, making signs to ward off evil. Despite the large amounts of money he was turning down, he left the group, making his way down the service corridors and around the corner. About three seconds later a blood curdling scream came from down the way he had gone. The Captain ordered Titus and the guardsmen to go after the ganger but by the time they got to the corner and set up a defensive advance, the gangers head rolled down the corridor and stopped in the cross-way.

The crew then joined together to decide what course to pursue next. The Captain, Jo’qa and Lord Daxos went to try and dig up some information on which Rogue Traders were currently in Footfall to see if they could get some information as to what opportunity was about to occur. Thale Steihr, Malakai and Raven were to investigate the Macrostatue of the God Emperor, which is surrounded by superstitions, rumours and horror stories. This seemed like a good place to look for the Seven Witches.

Jo’qa managed to find out that someone called Madam Charlabelle Armelan was to be dining at The House of the Emperor’s Grace, an exclusive restaurant in the merchant district. He wasn’t sure if she was a Rogue Trader or not, but at the very least she was someone of import to be dining the Emperor’s Grace. He booked a table for the Lord Captain and a few companions to dine for lunch, as that was when Madam Armelan was to be there.

Thale, Malakai and Raven had journeyed down deserted corridors, past abandoned habs and just opened the airlock to one of the space cables that connect the statue to the rest of the station. Considering the crowding of the rest of the station, the empty hallways and habs was a very ominous and disturbing scene. Just before they were about to venture through the airlock into the empty blackness of the space cable, the cold of the void seeping out of the door, Raven felt a wave of psychic, evil energy waft out of the cable. he could tell dark, warp tainted things dwelt beyond.

This is where we left the crew of the Grief, to be continued in a fortnight.

Arrival at Footfall
The crew of the Archaeda's Grief arrive at Footfall, some for the first time...

Picking up where we left off last time, we join the Grief’s crew getting ready to journey into The Warp. After setting course and getting his bearings, the Navigator, Lord Daxos of the Nomadic House of Navigators, made the translation to the Warp. After 3-4 days of travel, with only a few fluctuations of the Gellar Field to mar the otherwise perfect trip, the Grief translated back into real space just outside of Footfall.

After making initial contact with Footfall, Lord Captain Tyron Balt summoned Orbest Dray to report to him. After making his way to the Grief, Orbest Dray reported on what he knew of the opportunity that he had informed the Lord Captain of. Roughly 10 Rogue Traders had converged on Footfall in the past two months and hadn’t moved on yet, something that Orbest had never heard of in his lifetime. There was a rumour that the Seven Witches of Footfall were about to give some sort of grand Foretelling. His information was sadly lacking in detail as far as the Lord Captain was concerned, but it had enough validity to it to investigate further.

The senior staff separated into two groups to try and flush out some information. Father Hal Torque, Jo’qa Voidspawn & Torian were charged with going to the less savoury places in Footfall to try and find out what the seedy underbelly of the station knew of these rumours. The Lord Captain himself, Malakai & Lord Daxos ventured out to find the Liege Lord of Footfall.

From the first moment they step off the Lighters, the crew realise just how far they are from the Imperium with almost no Imperial regalia, no Imperial Guardsmen patrolling the docks and salted sporadically amongst it all, small groups of various Xeno’s going about their business.

After some “gentle” inquiries, Father Hal and his group make their way to a dingy tavern call “The Whispering Warp” in the dockyard commercial district. Jo’qa tries to butter up the dockyard guard they had met, but they didn’t manage to get any useful information. Father Hal, made impatient by the lack of respect or answers in this area decides to make his way to The Chapel of the Third Congregants to make inquiries with his colleagues of the Ecclesiarchy.

Lord Captain Tyron and his party started making their way through to The Liege’s Court. On their way they were approached by a group of Kroot mercenaries offering their services to the Rogue Trader. Due to his hatred of Xeno’s of all kinds, the Lord Captain declined their offer and surprisingly let them go on their way. They were also accosted by some official looking customs officers demanding a docking tithe. Lord Captain Tyron recognised some discrepancies in their uniforms, which ranged from various senior level officers in various navies to apparently the Grand Admiral of Battlefleet Calixis himself. The Lord Captain ignored their threats and moved on. Past the dockyards in the corridors of Footfall they encountered a servo skull messenger from The Liege Lord, inviting them to a welcome feast that night.

After the invite was accepted, they made their way back to the “Office of the Administratum Oeconomica”, to confront the false officials. Behind the door that the men had disappeared into was just an empty room with several entrances to the warren of service corridors that create a labyrinth throughout Footfall. The Lord Captain decided to proceed into the corridors, looking for the men. The armsmen that they had brought with them went ahead, led by Sergeant at Arms Titus Aphesius. After a few minutes of searching, the Lord Captain calling out, “I’m here to pay the tithe!” they were soon surrounded by a group of Footfall’s unsavoury elements. After Malakai kicked things off with lobbing a frag grenade down the corridor that a voice had come from, the slugs started flying. With four shadows approaching from the front, two from the left, two from the right and a few coming up from behind, Sergeant Titus sprang into action, shouting orders to the armsmen, “Two-Bit, Rafferty, get back to cover Lord Daxos! Johnson, Spinner! Cover point! Grim, Cherry! Cover left!”

We left the crew as the fight was starting to ramp up, with one of the armsmen going down to a couple of early slugs from the ambushers.

First Session
A Journey Begins

The crew of the Archaeda’s Grief started off their new era under the command of Lord Captain Tyron Balt, fourth holder of the Warrant of Trade for the Balt Dynasty. They were given a rousing speech from the Lord Captain, in which he told them of his plans to restore the honour back to the Balt Dynasty that his predecessors had run into the ground.

The party went to their new stations and duties with a will, rooting out the disrespect, disloyalty and laziness that had come over the general crew during the reign of the former captain. Some dealt with disobedience with a heavy hand, others with a more subtle approach, trying to get to the root of the problems.

We left them as they were preparing the Grief for her first voyage under their guidance, sights set on Footfall where one of the Dynasties contacts is waiting for them with an opportunity that is not to be missed…
